Bibliography of the History of Slovakia
Bibliographic databases allow public and free access to databases on internet. At the present time they include more than 80.000 items approximately since 1953.
The database Bibliography since 1990 represents the bibliography of Slovak historiography – writings published from 1990 to the present day. Besides historiographic writings it also includes selected writings from related disciplines published in Slovakia and abroad. From the formal aspect they include monographs, collections, chapters, papers, articles, reports, reviews, annotations etc. They are mostly original writings, only occasionally also translations.
The database Historický časopis 1953–1989 [Historical journal 1953 – 1989 and literature to the 1989] includes papers, articles, reviews and annotations published during given years. There can also be found selected excerptions of other periodicals as well as monographs and collections published before 1990.
The database Excerpted documents offers overview on journals, collections and collective monographs with chapters, papers and articles which are excerpted – itemized in databases.
Bibliography of the Czech archival science
Bibliography of the Czech archival science processes Czech scientific and expert book production in the field of archival science and all important Bohemian, Moravian, and Silesian journals on archival science, history, and regional studies. It continues in the project of processing lists of archival literature published in print (issued in 1959, 1970, and 1990).
The database is focused on the following topics: organization and history of archival science and archives, record offices and record management, archival theory and practice, publishing historical sources, construction of archive buildings, archival education, and more. Literature on auxiliary historical sciences and related disciplines dealing with processing and storage of historical documents is processed selectively.
The Academic Encyclopedia of Czech History
Academic Encyclopedia of Czech History is an extensive encyclopedic work (15 volumes are planned), comprehensively presenting the latest scientific knowledge of the history of the Czech Lands and the societies living on this territory. The Encyclopedia also brings the overview of international contacts and connections from the beginning of historical time to the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. It primarily focuses on territorial changes, population, society, economy, legal and administrative conditions, politics, international relations, military history, culture, science and education, ideology, religion and historiography. This Encyclopedia has more ambitious goal than becoming a mere, yet critical summary of known data, often available to a narrow group of experts. It aims at providing the assessment of a vast factual basis, closely together with apt descriptions of essential topics from the Czech history, with the exception of biographical and historical-topographical facts, as they are summarized in special lexicons.
History of Everyday Life Database
The History of Everyday Life Database is one of the outcomes of an international research project involving the Institut für Wirtschafts- u. Sozialgeschichte der Universität Wien and the Institute of History of the Czech Academy of Sciences. One of the objectives of this project is to create a documentary collection of old memories, family chronicles, diaries and other biographical recollections. Today, this collection represents valuable testimony to the lives of ordinary people in periods gone by. It contains over four hundred biographical records.
Descriptions of life in the family and wider surroundings, description of items, acts, habits and everything we think should not be forgotten – all this can become a source of learning, a source of undiscovered knowledge, a stone in the mosaic of “everyday” history. Narratives can become a rare memory, fascinating reading not just for family members but also for other unknown readers. The database should serve as a valuable source of information without which it would often not be possible to grasp the deeper context of “great” history.
